Black mold or toxic black mold is a fungus that grows on cellulose materials in damp conditions. Humid conditions and a warm temperature with a source of food allows any mold to thrive.   1. Another great article. PPE is the most important part of removing mold from a home. Part of that PPE are respirators which are extremely important in removing mold spores from the air that worker breath. Respirators are not N95 dust masks.

  2. If possible, it's always best to completely remove the object contaminated with black mold (i.e. not just clean it). It's very hard to remove 100% of the mold, and if you don't, it will grow back again over time. I suggest wearing all the protective gear mentioned in your post, and wrapping the contaminated object in plastic, and throwing it away in a garbage OUTSIDE of your home.
